September 18, 2013 - Barren Hill Tavern Head Brewer Scott Morrison Announces His Beers
PRESS RELEASE:
Lafayette Hill, PA—While owner Erin Wallace is transforming the old General Lafayette Inn into Barren Hill Tavern & Brewery, Head Brewer Scott Morrison has started the brewing process.

Head Brewer Scott Morrison has announced a list of the first beers coming from Barren Hill Tavern— beers that steer away from the conventional or expected. The beers are a sampling of global styles, experimenting with water variations, doubles, triples, different barleys and hops, and original hybrid creations.

Currently in the tanks and the first anticipated taps will be Double Berliner Weisse—a 6% ABV wheat beer; and Burton IPA—an English style IPA, dry hopped with English East Kent Golding and brewed with water that Morrison manipulated to recreate this famous water in Burton Upon Trent, a town in England straddling the River Trent, known for breweries.

The next brews to debut will be German Imperial Pilsner—stronger than an ordinary pilsner, dry hopped with Hallertau Hersbrucker hops; and Triple—Belgian/Down Under, using Belgian Malts and Belgian yeast, but added Pacific Rim hops, Pacific Jade and Pacific Gem.

Having just returned from a trip to France, Morrison is planning the French version of Oktoberfest, Biére de Octobre—a French style bière de garde, made using lager yeast; and Baltic Porter—a smooth lagered porter that’s typically made in Finland. This porter is quite different and stronger than an English-style Porter at 7% ABV because it is lagered for six weeks.

Additionally, as Barren Hill Tavern opens, Morrison’s list of beers to expect include:

Single Hop-Amarillo Pale Ale – single hopped ale brewed using exclusively Amarillo hops, which are flavorful and yield a flowery, spicy and citrus-like aroma.
Pilsner IPA – a hybrid between a German Pilsner and American IPA with additional German Hops.
Edelhelles – a helles (light) brewed with exclusively German Noble Hops.
White IPA - a hybrid style American IPA with wheat and unmalted wheat to give the beer a “white” beer character.
Amer-Belgo Black IPA – a dark version of American IPA; Belgian yeast gives this beer “Belgo” character.
American Triple – A Belgian style triple with all American hops.
Vanilla Baltic Porter – a traditional Finnish Baltic Porter aged on Tahitian and Madagascar vanilla beans.
Prohibition Pale Ale - pale ale brewed with cherry and oak chips.
Scotch Wallace Ale – Traditional Scotch Ale brewed with “optic” barley, a common ingredient in Scottish Peated Whiskey.
German Hefe-Weiss – a German Wheat Beer.
Imperial Milk Stout – English Stout that uses lactose, 9%ABV.
Oatmeal Extra Stout – English Style Stout with oats.
Head Brewer Scott Morrison and Owner Erin Wallace have big plans for the Lafayette Hill brewpub and this first round of brews indicates a style that promises to be experimental, refined, and surprising. More details about Barren Hill Tavern’s opening will be coming soon.
