More than 20 of the nation’s finest cask ale producers will be offering guests a variety of unique flavors. Cask ale — unfiltered and unpasteurized beer that is conditioned (including secondary fermentation) and served from a cask without additional nitrogen or carbon dioxide pressure — has a deeply rooted tradition in the Philadelphia beer scene and it’s only natural that the brewery that resurrected this style of beer hosts its flagship event.

Food will be provided, the Jazz Horses will be returning to supply the music (with an additional band coming) and all attendees will receive a commemorative mug. Additionally, the entire brewery space will be open to guests, allowing them to explore Philadelphia’s most sustainable brewery from the recently completed Tasting Room to the bottling line.

The event has sold out every year since its inception, and tickets can be difficult to obtain on the day of the event. VIP tickets are very limited and allow attendees to arrive an hour early for a private tour of the brewery with brew master and founder Tom Kehoe at noon, an hour before the festival begins. . VIPs will also be able to sample something special from Yards Brewing Company and other breweries.

Allentown Brew Works will host its second Cask Beer Festival 3 to 6 p.m. March 26 in its High Gravity Lounge. The event will feature beers from Weyerbacher, River Horse, Yards, Sly Fox, Stoudt's and Hammersmith Ales. Hammersmith is the brainchild of amateur brewer and history buff Christopher Bowen, who brewed Goundie's Old Monocacy Ale in the summer of 2009 for the exhibit "Roll Out the Barrel: Bethlehem Brews History." This year's festival will feature cask-conditioned versions of Fegley's ESB and oatmeal stout from Bethlehem Brew Works brewer Lewis Thomas. From Allentown Brew Works brewer Josh Bushey, festival-goers can enjoy Ludicrous, an ice-brewed and dry hopped version of Hop'Solutely, as well as two cask-conditioned versions of barrel-aged Insidious Imperial Stout. The second has additional vanilla added.

The event will also feature samples from Stonekeep Meadery, Pennsylvanias first and only meadery, Whiskey reps from Bushmills on hand sampling different tastes of their Irish whiskeys and several tastings from Jameson Irish Whiskey. Lehigh Valley Historian Frank Whelan do an historical presentation about Lehigh Valley beer barons.

St-Feuillien Instructor: Dominique Friart, Owner of St-Feuillien Wednesday, March 30 • 6:30-8:00 pm • $55 Poor Feuillien. The seventh-century monk who lent his name to the brewery has been all but forgotten, replaced in beer lover’s hearts by Brewery St-Feuillien, one of Wallonia’s (southern Belgium) most renowned and popular breweries. Indeed, St-Feuillien Blonde was recently named the “World’s Best Abbey/Trappist Blonde” at the World Beer Awards. Owner Dominique Friart, a fourth-generation brewer and one of the few women at the top of the Belgian beer scene, shares the brewery’s centuries-old brewing traditions and St-Feuillien's magnificent brews. 6:30-8pm $55.
